Control the light. The whole point of a basement theater is darkness on demand. If there are windows, plan for blackout coverings. Then build in dimmable lighting so you can find your seat without killing the mood

Handle the sound. Sound is half the experience. Proper insulation and the right materials keep the boom in the theater and out of the bedrooms upstairs. It also keeps household noise from bleeding into your movie. 

Plan the seating. Tiered seating means everyone sees the screen. Even a single riser in the back row makes a big difference. Build in comfortable seating and you've got the best seat in town.

Get the wiring right the first time. Speakers, screen, and components need power and cabling planned before the walls close up. Doing it now saves you from tearing things open later.
